Irna Senekal and Enver Motala presented this webinar in which they discussed the concept of ‘socially-useful and engaged scholarship’, pointing out that it is not the same as the ‘scholarship of engagement’. The presentation highlighted that socially-useful and engaged scholarship is about the process of engaging with communities. Resistance and alternatives develop through action emerging from the lived experience of communities in their search for social, economic and political justice. The webinar focused on how these alternatives can be strengthened through socially-useful and engaged scholarship.
