High-Level Visit by DVV International Delegation to Uganda

Kampala, Uganda, April 14 - A high-level visit of three Board members of DVV International Head Quarters in Germany is in Uganda to assess the organisation’s work in supporting the country’s Adult Learning and Education development efforts. The team of three members of the Executive Boards of DVV International, Regional Office officials were in Uganda for three days from 14th April 2024 and interacted with key Government of Uganda officials, the diplomatic community, multilateral agencies, and civil society, as well as beneficiaries in Namayingo, Nwoya, and Rukungiri districts. Shortly before the field visit, the visitors had a meeting that was presided over by Mr. James Ebitu the director who represented the Permanent Secretary Aggrey David Kibenge This meeting was aimed at; 1. Following up on the collaboration between DVV International and the Government of Uganda by the visiting delegation about the Adult Learning and Education service delivery in Uganda. 2. To update the visiting delegation on the achievements ensuing from the joint partnership to deliver Adult Learning and Education in Uganda. 3. To appreciate the existing partnership between the German Adult Education Association (DVV) through the Uganda Country office and the Government of Uganda through MGLSD. This formal partnership between the Government of Uganda and DVV International has existed since 2015. However, DVV International, a global leading organisation in adult education and development cooperation, has had its presence in Uganda as early as 1985 supporting the professionalization of Adult Learning and Education through the higher institutions of learning. This meeting between the leadership of DVV International and MGLSD provided a platform to showcase DVV International’s contribution towards improving adult learning opportunities for Ugandans. For example, through the Integrated Community Learning for Wealth Creation Programme (ICOLEW), which was birthed from the unification of the two bodies (DVV and MGLSD), communities in 4 pilot districts of Nwoya, Namayingo, Iganga and Mpigi plus Runkungiri and Mityana added along the way, have been visibly transformed lives of the people in those communities. Mr. James Ebitu, who spoke on behalf of the Ministry, reassured the partners from DVV international about the government’s commitment to not only applying the ICOLEW model to transform the lives of Ugandans, but also he assured them of a good working environment which in turn will be reason for the full realization of the partnership objectives and sustainability of all gains attained during this consolidation. Representatives from DVV International also expressed their commitment to continuing their collaborative efforts with the government of Uganda, with a shared goal of creating sustainable and impactful adult learning solutions. The meeting concluded with a hand over of certificates of recognition to the ICOLEW and were presented to DVV delegates. “We are delighted to host members of the Executive Board members and The Director of DVV International. The visit is a great opportunity for us to showcase how we are working with the Government of Uganda and other partners to achieve both the national and global development agendas,” said Ms. Frauke Heinz, the Regional Director of East/Horn of Africa, DVV International The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Namayingo District Local government used this opportunity to showcase how they are ‘Delivering as One’ in support of Uganda’s work in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its Non-formal Adult Learning and Education, including ALESBA, Curriculum GlobalALE to support communities to improve their livelihoods. Speaking on behalf of the Board Members, Mr. Rabanus noted the good collaboration between the DVV International and the Government of Uganda. “
