DVV International Newsletter May 2025

13 May 2025 | DVV International ALE

Newsletter

Dear Readers,

In the face of war, repression and uncertainty, adult learning and education (ALE) can take on a role far beyond the acquisition of knowledge. In this issue of our newsletter, we share two powerful testimonials – from Afghanistan and Ukraine – that highlight how ALE can serve as both a practical tool and a source of hope in the most difficult situations.

In Afghanistan, Ms. Roqia, a tailor and entrepreneur, continues to employ women despite numerous restrictions. Through support from DVV International’s long-standing partner ANAFAE (Afghan National Association for Adult Education), she has gained new skills and strategies that allow her to adapt and sustain her business.

In Ukraine, our colleague Mariia Mylohorodska shares how ALE offered psychological support and a renewed sense of purpose amidst the trauma of war. Her story echoes the experiences of many Ukrainians who have found strength and resilience through education. These accounts underscore the essential role of DVV International and its partners in ensuring access to quality education for all.

In addition to these and other stories from our global network, we are sharing a selection of new publications and practical tools for ALE professionals.

We wish you an inspiring read!
