Learning Peace And Justice Through African Philosophies

This article is rooted in Indigenous knowledge as a theory, which refers to a combination of skills and practices that Indigenous communities acquire over generations through everyday life experiences, relationships, and the specific contexts in which such knowledge is created. In particular, the article seeks to explore the role that Indigenous knowledge institutions can play as instruments of peace in Lesotho.

Peace Through Empowerment: Adult Education And Domestic Workers’ Rights In Tunisia https://mojaafrica.net/en/moja-journal (English)

The home is universally perceived as a refuge, a private space where one is supposed to be safe. Yet, for hundreds of thousands of women in Tunisia, this same space becomes a place of vulnerability hidden from public view. As an invisible pillar of the economy, domestic work is carried out behind closed doors, in a grey area where fundamental rights too often cease to exist. This article explores how, through a significant initiative led by DVV International Tunisia and the National Union of Tunisian Women (UNFT), those most affected have been able to challenge exclusion and strengthen their agency. The article argues that adult education is not merely a form of learning but a catalyst for transformation, enabling ‘invisible’ workers to become active and empowered citizens who can challenge the structural inequalities and violence that shape their lives.

On 28 October 2026, the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (FAALTV), in partnership with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), will host the webinar 'Literacy in the digital age: a foundational pillar of inclusive learning societies'. The event is part of the UIL global webinar series, 'Unlocking the power of lifelong learning,' bringing together stakeholders from across the globe every first and third Wednesday of the month.

Despite important progress over recent decades, literacy challenges persist in many regions of the world, particularly among adults with limited schooling, women and rural populations. At the same time, digitalization has made reading, writing and digital navigation essential skills for accessing information, services and learning opportunities, reinforcing the link between literacy and social inclusion.

This webinar invites a rethinking of the role of literacy from a lifelong learning perspective. Far from being a single, initial stage of education, literacy should be seen as an entry point into a continuous pathway of learning and empowerment, now fully integrating essential digital skills needed to navigate connected, information-based societies.

The webinar will also highlight challenges related to the digital divide, technological inclusion and the development of basic digital competencies. It will examine innovative initiatives and policies aimed at building literacy systems embedded within education systems and national lifelong learning strategies. Particular attention will be given to approaches that use educational technologies to expand equitable access to knowledge and support the emergence of inclusive, resilient and sustainable learning societies.

Share innovative practices and approaches for inclusive learning system

Webinar: National Qualifications Frameworks (NQF): a strategic tool for recognising skills in the era of lifelong learning.

Across many African countries and beyond, education and labour systems are undergoing rapid transformation driven by technological change, evolving skills needs and increasing labour mobility. In this context, ensuring that skills acquired in different settings are properly recognised has become a central policy priority. NQFs have emerged as key instruments for structuring qualifications systems and improving transparency across learning pathways.

From a lifelong learning perspective, NQFs go beyond the classification of diplomas. They enable the recognition of skills acquired throughout life, including through formal education, vocational training, workplace learning and informal experiences. Thus, they contribute to improved employability, greater social inclusion and enhanced mobility between education and employment systems.

This webinar will explore the strategic role of the NQF as a lever for transforming African education systems, and will examine the conditions for its effective implementation in support of lifelong learning and social inclusion.
